Little Potters
Ceramics for Children
Little Potters: Saturday Morning
A small, hands-on ceramics class for children ages 6–12, focused on handbuilding and wheel throwing.
Children will work on handbuilding projects while taking turns for one-on-one wheel time, giving each child individual guidance without rushing the process. We’ll also leave room for seasonal projects, sketching, glazing, and developing their own ideas in clay.
The group will start with foundational projects like pinch pots, coils and slabs, then build toward more individual ideas as the semester progresses. Seasonal projects will also be a big part of the curriculum.
A very important lesson that children will learn, is that pottery takes time. Pieces have to dry, be trimmed, bisque fired, glazed and fired again before they can come home. In a time of instant gratification and high electronic usage, this is an important lesson to learn.
